The Arctic is changing and presenting new military challenges. In the first part of our Arctic warfare special, we look at the challenges facing Arctic operations, the region’s strategic importance and how militaries are preparing to operate in the high north.
Russia is amassing unprecedented military might in the Arctic and testing its newest weapons in a region freshly ice-free due to the climate emergency. In the second part of our Arctic warfare special, we look at the military equipment programmes seeking to support any future Arctic combat scenario, including the US Army’s Cold Weather All-Terrain Vehicle.
In 2020, a fire ripped through the Marine Nationale's FS Perle submarine. To repair the boat, France's Naval Group is joining the aft of the Perle to the front of the sister submarine Saphir. We speak to the company about how the complex repairs are being completed.
