When something goes seriously wrong on board a submarine, escaping at depth is a hugely risky undertaking. We take a look at the equipment and training that helps keep submariners safe should the worst occur, including the Submarine Escape Immersion Equipment full-body suit and the Submarine Escape, Rescue, Abandonment and Survival facility.

A new production line in Stockport will handle the production of some of the UK’s new Boxer Mechanised Infantry Vehicles. UK defence contractor WFEL has invested millions of pounds in building the facility, technology transfer programmes and bringing onboard specialist skills such as armour-plate welding and vehicle assembly. We take a look inside the facility and ask what it takes to at what build an armoured vehicle.

The UK currently has 130,000 military cadets and almost 30,000 volunteers who support them. A recent study found that spending on cadet forces has a positive social impact and benefits the cadets, the armed forces and the wider economy. We investigate the importance of cadetships as an early careers route into the armed forces.
