With Challenger 2, Warrior 2, JLTV, Boxer and AJAX, the British Army is slowly recapitalising its land fleet. Now that rumours of plans to scrap the country’s heavy armoured vehicles are off the table, we explore how the major vehicle programmes in development will reshape UK land power.

Over the next 20 years, optionally crewed and remotely piloted aircraft will play an increasing important role for air defence. We examine how this will shape the future role of the pilot, what new roles it will create and what this means for fitness requirements and recruitment.

Also in the next issue, we also catch up with Globsec’s founder Robert Vass ahead of the annual conference to discuss how emerging technology is changing defence, speak to games technology company Improbably about its synthetic environment platform which has been chosen by the British Army for soldier training, and hear from Raytheon how its VirtualWorx augmented reality system reduces the need to send technicians to the field for maintenance and repairs.
