Sweden acquires Carl-Gustaf M4 ammunition
Saab will deliver Skr3bn ($276.9m) worth of ammunition for the recoilless Carl-Gustaf M4 rifle to the Swedish Defence Material Administration (FMV), with deliveries arriving throughout 2026-2030.
The order was placed within a framework agreement between the Saab and the FMV, which allows purchases of the company’s ground combat weapons, including the Carl-Gustaf.
In 2018, the FMV signed a contract for deliveries of the latest iteration of the weapon: the Carl Gustaf M4.
UK and Czech Republic strengthen defence export prospects
The UK Minister for Defence Procurement James Cartlidge visited the International Defence and Securities Technologies Fair (IDET) in Brno in May to explore collaboration opportunities.
The country has ongoing negotiations to sign a contract with UK-based defence company Supacat to procure 24 High Mobility Transport vehicles. The vehicles serve as reconnaissance and long-range patrol elements in the British Army.
Leopard 2 tank arrives in Slovakia in arms swap for Ukraine
Slovakia received a third Leopard 2A4 main battle tank on 2 June, gifted by Germany after the Slovak Republic transferred 30 BVP-1 vehicles to Ukraine in August 2022.
On 17 April, Slovakia took receipt of the first two Leopard 2A4 Tanks due to arrive from Germany. By the end of 2023, the Slovak Army is set to receive an additional 12 Leopard 2A4s, for a total of 15 vehicles.
UK spends £125m to continue aircrew training
The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) subsidiary, Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S), will continue to fund mission aircrew training for the next generation of pilots in the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force. The latest deal will support the Ascent Flight Training scheme, a joint venture between Lockheed Martin UK and Babcock International.
