BMT strengthens Asia-Pacific offering with AMT acquisition

Maritime design, engineering, and consultancy company BMT has acquired Australian Maritime Technologies (AMT) to strengthen solutions for defence and commercial maritime customers. Through its strategic partnership with Luerssen Australia, AMT has played a key role in establishing in-country design capability for the Arafura-class offshore patrol vessel programme and has advised on the mid-life combat and systems upgrades for the Royal New Zealand Navy’s Anzac-class frigates.

AV to acquire BlueHalo in $4.1bn all-stock deal

AeroVironment (AV) has entered a definitive agreement to acquire BlueHalo in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately $4.1bn. The deal aims to form a diversified defence technology company, enhancing AV’s capabilities in uncrewed systems and advanced technologies, and will combine the company’s defence solutions with BlueHalo’s emerging technologies, offering a portfolio across domains such as air, land, sea, space, and cyber.

RTAF partners with Diehl Defence for IRIS-T missile

The Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) has signed a support contract with Diehl Defence to enhance the service’s capability for the IRIS-T short-range air-to-air missile system. This follows a long-term collaboration between the two parties on deploying IRIS-T missiles on RTAF aircraft. In 2018, Diehl Defence announced that Thailand ordered more IRIS-T short-range air-to-air missiles for use with the Air Force’s F-5 aircraft.

North Korea ratifies defence treaty with Russia

North Korea has ratified a mutual defence treaty with Russia, reported state radio Voice of Korea in mid-November. The treaty was first signed on 19 June 2024 during Russian president Vladimir Putin’s visit to North Korean capital Pyongyang and will formally take effect once both nations exchange documents confirming the ratification. The treaty provides for military aid should either signatory face an armed attack.
